Beauty Talk #2 : Niacinamide
Let's continue with the beauty talk 💚 Dah lama post ni terkubur in draft section from August last year. Kalau lah ni kimchi, mesti dah sedap agaknya sebab dah lama perap 💣
Today I would like to share anything that related to this 'NIACINAMIDE' . I see that products with niacinamide nowadays become a trending, so why not you gain some knowledge first before purchasing it ?
💙💚💛💜
Niacinamide is made from niacin, also known as vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid. VItamin B is called retinol. Niacin can be found in all cells and present in greatest amounts in
tissues that are more metabolically active; like the brain, heart,
liver and skeletal muscle.
Niacinamide has the ability to treat some skin conditions including aging skin, acne, psoriasis (scaly patches) and rosacea (redness usually on cheeks and nose). Its anti-inflammatory properties make it effective for treating acne,
psoriasis and rosacea especially, due to it reducing the clogging of
dead skin cells with sebum. If you using a product that contains 4% of niacinamide, you can see that it can reduce your acne. But, if you're is a senstive one, you need to use the lower amount of niacinamide in a product.
Reasons why you need these niacinamide in your skincare routine
- Boosting the immunity of the skin.
- Improve epidermal barried performance because niacinamide produce ceramides that can keep your skin strong and prevent your skin from losing a lot of water to keep it moisture.
- Improve redness and blotchiness in the skin by daily application of niacinamide.
- Regulated oil flow which is good for those with oily skin. You can add niacinamide on daily skincare routine rather than wash your face many times to look fresh.
- Protects skin from infrared light because niacinamide protects skin from heat.
- Hyper-pigmentation, niacinamide will assist in the reduction of uneven pigmentation by slowing down the transfer of melanin to your skin’s epidermis.
- Minimise lines and wrinkles.
- No more dull and sallow skin as niacinamide is an antioxidant can reduces the negative impact of oxidative stress.

Do you know how much of niacinamide is enough for us ?
The best formulation of a product is contains 10% of niacinamide. So, when you're looking at the ingredients list, the niacinamide should be near to the top.
When we should apply this on skin ?
You can apply this twice daily in morning or at night. But, if your skin is sensitive because this niacinamide is quite strong, so you can choose whether want to use it in the morning before apply your moisturiser and sunscreen or use it at night with your night cream .
Can we use vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and niacinamide in the same product or applied at the same time in separate products?
Actually this combination between niacinamide and vitamin C is fine and bring benefit to our skin !
The research this misconception is based on was conducted in the 1960s; the forms of niacinamide and vitamin C used in this study were not stabilized—although niacinamide itself is very stable. The base of the formula used in this study was also far different than today’s sophisticated skincare formulas. Today, cosmetic chemists know how to combine niacinamide and vitamin C in the ideal base formulas that enhance their compatibility.
The other common concern we’ve seen about combining these two ingredients has to do with the pH range. The concern is that the acidic environment ascorbic acid needs to be most effective will cause niacinamide will convert to nicotinic acid, a form that can be sensitizing, possibly inducing redness. Good news: This conversion process would only happen under conditions of the formula being exposed to very high heat for a long period of time. This would not apply to layering skincare products or to heat conditions that occur during manufacturing, transport, and storage of cosmetic products that contain niacinamide and ascorbic acid.
What all of this means is that you can use or layer products containing both niacinamide and vitamin C knowing that they will not render each other any less effective. Each of these ingredients on its own can help to address dark spots, uneven skin tone, wrinkles, loss of firmness, and dullness. When used together, they become even more of a powerhouse! This duo will help give you an even better chance at achieving a radiant, smooth, even, younger-looking complexion.
